In addition to community service, community
education programs are also one of the Green Team’s foundational pillars. The Supersonic Hydroponics Green Team has
worked very hard in their efforts to educate the community by either hosting or
participating in four highly public events.
They hosted the dedication of the Lori Kemp Memorial STEAM Courtyard
Project, participated in the Daniel Boone Education Association’s Safe Trick or
Treat Night, hosted a reception to honor Daniel Boone High School Faculty and Staff, and
cohosted, with the First Class Biogas Green Team, an event for the local Boy
and Girl Scouts.
After completing the courtyard construction started by the 2013 – 2014 Green Team, the Supersonic Hydroponics held the dedication of the Lori Kemp Memorial STEAM Courtyard. Mrs. Kemp was a former English teacher who died from cancer several years earlier. Her bravery and dedication to teaching inspired Daniel Boone students to begin the Daniel Boone Relay for Life. Years after her death, Mrs. Kemp still inspires Daniel Boone students. For this reason the Green Team dedicated the courtyard in her honor. During the dedication, the Supersonics Hydroponics introduced their Lexus Eco Air and Water Challenge Research Project to over seventy-five community members offering the community’s first exposure to hydroponic gardening.
During the Daniel Boone Education Association’s Safe Trick or Treat Night, 1,512 parents and children passed through the STEAM courtyard. Well over 425 of these individuals, including Superman and Batman, toured the Hydroponics Greenhouse Laboratory.
The teacher reception provided an opportunity for the Green Team to become their teacher’s teachers.
After the trick or treat event, a local Girl Scout Troop leader contacted the Green Team requesting a more in depth tour of the Green Team’s research facility. This request grew until over 150 Girl Scouts, Brownies, Boy Scouts, and Cub Scouts and their parents ultimately attended a series of six presentations and laboratory demonstrations helping these Scouts fulfill some of their Environmental, Gardening, Recycling, and Science Journey, Merit Badge, and Belt Loop requirements.
