One of the most important, nonscientific Green Team
foundational pillars is community service.
The 2013 – 2014 Green Team’s fortunate success in the Lexus Eco
Challenge enabled them to provide a great service to their fellow Daniel Boone
Students and to emphasis the importance of environmental stewardship. They were able to begin the construction of
the Lori Kemp Memorial STEAM Courtyard project in one of the school’s fifty year
old vacant courtyards.
The courtyard houses the Hydroponics Greenhouse Laboratory, an outdoor green classroom with a stage, and six handmade picnic tables. These projects were completed under the leadership of the 2014 – 2015 Supersonic Hydroponics team. The completion of this project transforms an environmentally wasted space into a research facility and an outdoor green classroom where future generations of students will be reminded of the value of and commitment to environmental stewardship.
Enjoy the photographs below and watch as a vacant, wasted space is converted into a beautiful, useful space through the leadership of the Green Team and the efforts of their high school peers.
