One of the most significant environmental issues facing mankind
today is how do we feed an ever growing population without causing significant
deterioration to our world’s forest and pollution of our water systems. When challenged by Toyota USA’s Lexus Eco
Land &Water Challenge, http://lexus.scholastic.com/challenges,
to come up with a means of producing food for our population without
deforesting the land, without contributing to soil erosion, and by conserving
water at the same time, the Green Team’s research led them to designing,
developing, and constructing a hydroponics system in the greenhouse donated to
them by Solar Innovations, Inc., http://www.solarinnovations.com/,
from Pine Grove, Pennsylvania.
We would also like to extend our appreciation to First Energy for the grants that enabled us to complete the hydroponics project so quickly.
The photographs on this page detail the construction of the Hydroponics System. Coincidentally, none of the Supersonic Hydroponics Green Team members have ever done this kind of work before this project.
